R2R Comprehension Bootcamp

R2R Comprehension Bootcamp provides intensive training for students to learn how to think about what they are reading by personally connecting with the text, making observations, and accessing their prior knowledge. The program is organized into four modules, and it covers the key concepts developed from well-known and widely used comprehension curricula.

The course layout is as follows:

Module 1: Reading is Thinking! / Loving Nonfiction

Module 2: Connecting to Your Text

Module 3: Questioning for Deeper Understanding. I Wonder…

Module 4: What’s Important: Inferencing, Summarizing and Synthesizing

Module 1

Module 1 is the foundational boot camp course consisting of five intensive reading sessions teaching students to think about their reading by personally connecting with the text, making observations, and accessing their prior knowledge. Students will interact with nonfiction text as they learn and use nonfiction text features, create their own nonfiction text feature book, and become a specialist on a nonfiction subject! This course lays the groundwork for future modules, and each module will introduce new skills and practice already learned skills. The benefits of your child deepening their understanding of text and receiving explicit instruction on how to think while they read will follow them throughout their academic lives and beyond!

Newport Christian School students have the opportunity to participate in an R2R Comprehension Bootcamp beginning this winter! Over the course of two years, each of the four modules will be offered – Modules 1 and 2 during this school year and 3 and 4 during the ’24-’25 school year.
